Kids these days... they just think they're so smart, don't they? Well, did you ever stop to think about why that may be? The internet has revolutionized education, but not just for kids—you can find some pretty amazing educational and training resources online, for almost any topic under the sun!

If you've ever had a yearning to learn another language or study a different culture, you can start by studying online. Want to change professions? Take courses online to prepare yourself to make the switch. High-speed internet makes our world a bigger, brighter place; and, it places a tremendous amount of educational opportunities right at your fingertips.

Are you ready to learn something new? You can get started today, for free!

Want to learn to code? Lynda can help with that.

Want to study statistical thermodynamics? You can get started at Open Education Consortium.

Maybe those topics are a little too dry and dusty. Perhaps, you just want to find step-by-step instructions to create the perfect themed birthday party for one of your kids. Allow us to point you in the right direction: PBS is a great place to start!

Now more than ever, you can find so many educational resources online, if you just know where to look. Here's a list of some of our other favorite sites.

  1. YouTube: Believe it or not, you can learn a lot on YouTube—from fitness to finance and everything in between.
  2. Coursera: Experience real college courses that showcase recorded video lectures, auto-graded and peer-reviewed assignments, and community discussion forums
  3. Khan Academy: Another great option for serious academic topics. Use it to supplement school work for yourself or your children.
  4. Academic Earth: Whether you want to explore new topics or advance in your current field, Academic Earth offers a wide range free of courses.
  5. iTunes U has 500,000+ courses that can be downloaded to your computer, your iPad, or your iPhone.

  7. edX offers a large variety of timed courses that will help you stay on-task and up-to-date.
  8. Udemy lets you learn at your own pace.  These courses are great, but these courses are not free.
  9. MIT Open Courseware and Open Yale Courses let you test your mind against some of the toughest courses around.
  10. 99U offers tons of entertaining, educational videos on all sorts of topics, with a particular focus on creative work.

A life-long passion for learning will help keep you young — and with all these resources available from the comfort of your own home, you'll never get bored! Take a chance, learn a new skill, broaden your horizons. The world is a big, beautiful place with a lot of exciting opportunities out there waiting for you. Who knows, you may just wind up taking a course or watching a video that will turn out to be the first step on your very own world-wide adventure!
