News 9 Returns After Fidelity Reaches Agreement With Griffin
LAWTON, OKLAHOMA, October 1, 2012—KWTV, Oklahoma's Own, News 9 is back on the air in Lawton.
Fidelity Communications today announced a new carriage agreement that brings the popular Oklahoma City CBS affiliate back to the Lawton airwaves after an 8-month absence. The previous agreement expired Jan. 1 and negotiations reached a stalemate in mid-January.
"We appreciate all our customers' support and understanding while we worked through this carriage renewal," said Andy Davis, head of programming. "We've basically been working diligently this whole time to return this channel to the Lawton market and have reached a meeting of the minds on a fair deal. We hope to continue this relationship for the foreseeable future."
He added, "We understand there's a value for carriage of News 9 in Lawton and are really excited to bring it back."
Lawton General Manager Alan Holcomb agreed. "News 9 is a long established news, weather and sports outlet in not only Oklahoma City but throughout the state of Oklahoma," he said. "We're thrilled to bring them back and we know they bring a great deal of professionalism to their broadcasts."
Legendary Meteorologist Gary England is especially well known to Oklahoma viewers for his coverage of severe weather.
Negotiations were finalized on Friday and the channel returned to the Fidelity Cablevision system on Saturday afternoon.
