Tech Tip - Wireless Bands

  • Posted by Blog Administrator - November 17, 2016

The Internet speeds you receive wirelessly vary based on the radio and processing power in each of your devices. Some older devices can only connect to the 2.4Ghz band. Most newer devices can connect to both the 2.4Ghz band and the less crowded 5Ghz band. Both are available with your Fidelity equipment.

For example, 802.11g (or “G”) routers only offer speeds up to 25 Mbps. “N” routers can handle up to 100 Mbps and newer “AC” routers up to 700 Mbps. Your actual speed will depend on what speed you pay for, distance from the router and whether your wireless card supports the highest speeds. AC routers provide more wireless speed but less range than G or N routers.
