Fidelity Works to Close Digital Divide for Arkansas Students Through Chromebook Donation

June 29, 2021 – Hardy, Ark. – As K-12 schools end another challenging year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fidelity Communications is working to close the digital divide for students at Cherokee Elementary School in Hardy, Arkansas with the donation of Chromebooks through the company's Chromebooks for Kids initiative.

Senior Vice President of Technology Services Ken Johnson said that both educators and students need access to the tools and technology that will set them up for future success.

"Now more than ever, student access to computers is a necessity," Johnson said. "By donating Chromebooks, we're giving students in need the opportunity to use technology that will ultimately prepare them for a progressively digital workforce."

Cherokee Elementary School Principal Meg Barnes said that Fidelity's Chromebook donation will bolster students' computer skills and make learning come alive through the use of technology. Teachers will also be able to look at the student data that is readily available and track student growth and success while determining areas where students need extra help.

"School has quickly changed as we have become a world of technology and we want our students to have the same opportunities as other students," Barnes said. "Having access to technology gives us the ability to give students access to a world of knowledge in all subject areas. It provides students with easy-to-access information, accelerated learning, and fun opportunities to practice what they learn. These Chromebooks enable students to explore new subjects and deepen their understanding of difficult concepts."

Over the past eight years, Fidelity, along with the other Cable One family of brands, has donated more than 2,000 Chromebooks to Title I schools in the markets it serves.
